Cornwall city council agreed to pay $181,575 for the replacement of the Justice Building’s aging emergency generator. The funds used to pay for the tender — awarded to Mississauga’s Genrep Ltd. — are in the 2021 budget.

The building’s current generator is about 20-years old and has a ground fault. It provides power to one elevator, two rooftop air-handling units, sump pumps, exhaust fans, the 911 dispatch office, IT equipment, numerous emergency panels, as well as the rear garage door.

The awarded bid was more than $100,000 less than the other one presented by Brockville’s Industrial Electrical Contractors.

Yard sales OK

A resolution presented by Coun. Maurice Dupelle, which would have requested a report from administration regarding the possibility of halting yard sales during the pandemic, was voted down by a majority of council.

“I wanted to show our community that we’re doing our part during this pandemic,” said Dupelle prior to the vote. “I’ve received lots of calls regarding how we will be enforcing this measure. I’m not sure we can and that is why I put this motion forward.”

How often should my a garage door be serviced?

Your garage door is a large piece of moving equipment made up of many parts. Some families use their garage door more than their front door. The most common torsion springs have an expected life of about 10,000 cycles (one opening and one closing is a cycle.)
