Garage doors are like the face of a house, so it catches an eye negatively when it gets dented.
Nothing is more frustrating than anything as costly as a garage door device, not running and hampering everyday routine.
Yet, garage door dents are very common and fortunate for us, there is a simple repair, and we should not be tool experts.
It does not hurt to check and clean our door from time to time.
We can prevent costly problems and maintenance by fixing dents, or taking care of dirt and dust, even grime.
We at A1 believe it is safer to contact the experts if the garage door experienced serious marks.
Why A1 recommends dented garage door with immediate repair
Some believe the overall garage door system would not be affected when garage doors got some dents.
Experts believe it otherwise.
At A1, we recommend immediate fixing, as it will undoubtedly do more harm.
We also recommend periodic garage door cleaning, including the track system.
Things such as dirt, dust, and debris can cause the door to get stuck, derail from the track, or fail to function correctly.
Imagine what a dent can do if a garage door device fails due to debris?
Also, the value of our residential units relies heavily on the home’s aesthetics and curb’s attractiveness.
Thus, we need to keep the garage door and its landscaping all in good condition.
Garage door dents do otherwise.
Things we need to repair a dented garage door
Most of the required things to repair a dented garage door are in our own cellar or garage. The rest can be bought at a minimal cost at hardware stores.
- Bucket preferably medium size
- Dish soap or mild detergent
- Large sponge
- Aluminum foil (heavy-duty)
- Any compressed air can use for the disinfection of keyboards
Before starting any project, we at A1 make sure that all materials are available and easy to reach.
Examine garage door
At A1, we thoroughly check the garage door first, especially in the places where damage and dents usually occur.
As experts, our eyes are trained to see what others naked eyes can’t.
We do not want to get through the difficulty of fixing one dent and putting supplies away just to realize there are still a few unattended.
That obviously means a back job.
Now, time to prepare the garage door.
1. Make soap mixture
At A1, we make our own soap mixture in the right amount and texture to not waste any.
To work on this procedure, we fill the bucket with water using a hosepipe.
We then combine mild dish soap or detergent with lukewarm water and mix thoroughly.
2. Clean the dent areas
Before anything else, we at A1 make sure the dented areas are clean and dry.
All dirt and grime must be removed.
To do that, we apply a teaspoon of soap mixture that we made on a sponge or microfiber cloth to scrub the dirt off on the dented areas totally.
Let the wet area dry out in an hour, and the door should be ready to go.
Repair the Dents
Here’s the step-by-step procedure on how to repair a dented garage door.
1. Cover the dented areas with aluminum foil
At A1, we aim for less to zero waste, so we measure enough aluminum foil to stretch past the dent on both sides to cover the dented areas.
2. Foil flush
Put the foil flush on the dent so that it is completely sealed. We use one hand to keep the foil in place.
3. Heat the whole dented area
Get the lighter and pass it through the dented area. We ensure that all dent areas were covered in one minute with consistent flame, then remove the foil.
4. Trigger dent removal
We get then air can and hold it bottom-up, and spray the dent for 30 seconds still with the can upside down.
The can’s position allows the release of carbon dioxide.
Because of the intense temperature between the lighters’ heat and the cold carbon dioxides, the dent is repaired in two minutes.
That is how to repair a dented garage door.
However, more than one treatment is needed for a more enormous dent.
